Lessons
I want my students’ interests to guide the learning process. I listen to the course of their curiosity, and supplement following it with my own goals for their musical life; I teach playing the piano hand-in-hand with reading music so that they have the ability to follow their musical curiosity to spheres beyond the piano, such as other instruments and music composition.
For students interested in composition, I will also devote a portion of lesson time to helping them write their own music.
I strive to make lessons fun, and encourage my students to stretch their abilities in both lessons and home practice. I want them to experience success without excessive frustration, yet still challenge them enough to grow.
I understand that regular home practice can be a difficult discipline to form, especially for younger students. To help make home practice both fun and beneficial, I have created a series of Story Adventures designed for young students. Each adventure includes a series of choices and activities which lead to one or more endings. (All stories and illustrations Copyright Robinswood Music.)
